Android users can finally preview pages in Chrome

Until recently, the only way to open a link in the Chrome browser was to leave your current page or point the link to a separate tab. No scenario is ideal, especially if you just want to to briefly scroll through a link before opening it. Fortunately, Chrome now can finally make you an example of hyperlinks in Android.

Google recently added the page preview option via an update to the server. It’s turned on by default for all devices, so you do not have to go through your settings or install any further patches to make it work, but some users may not know that it’s even possible to preview links, as Google added functionality so suddenly. .

To provide a link in Chrome’s Android app:

  1. Press a long link on a hyperlink to open a pop-up menu
  2. Choose “Preview page.”
  3. A smaller tab opens on the current page. You can browse the preview and view its contents as normal without leaving the page you are already on.
  4. To load a preview page in its own page, tap the arrow icon at the top right. Press the “X” icon to close a preview window.

Link preview is a small add-on for Chrome, but a useful one that serves several purposes, which you can see polish or skim an article to see if this is what you are looking for.

That said, do not preview pages unless you know for sure that it is a safe site. A link preview loads all the content of a page – including all the images, videos and code that use the page. This includes any NSFW content that you may avoid, but there are greater threats than adult sites to worry about.

Phishing and malware scams often use fake URLs to steal personal information or sneak malicious software onto your devices. Previewing these pages can be just as dangerous as opening them directly. The best option is to simply not touch suspicious links. However, you can explore a link in Chrome without opening or previewing the page: just long-tap the link to open the pop-up menu. The URL of the link is displayed at the top of the menu. If you do not recognize the URL, or if this is obviously fake, do not click on it.
