Android Auto now has wallpapers, here’s what it looks like

Google’s Android Auto has exploded in popularity over the past few years, and with competition from Apple, the platform has undergone major changes over the past few years. After CarPlay’s added wallpapers last year, Google has now finally delivered the same features in Android Auto.

The arrival of this feature is no surprise; we’ve been seeing it in development for months now, even though we’re seeing the collection of wallpapers that would be available ahead of time. Now, with Android Auto v6.1, Google has officially enabled wallpapers for all users to take advantage of.

Android Auto does not allow fully customizable wallpapers, but gives users access to 15 different car / travel options. The standard paper that has been on all Android Auto vehicles since the 2020 redesign is now called ‘Mountains’, with 14 other options available. It includes textures you can find in cars like stitched leather, carbon fiber, and more. There are also stylized photos of a brake rotor and grille. In addition, there are some unique textures and patterns with ‘Amp’, ‘Waves’ and ‘Ether’, and the rest of the collection uses photos of the outdoors, including a forest, mountains in the twilight and a road with headlight paths .

These are all pretty neat wallpapers. My personal favorite is definitely ‘twilight’, but ‘stitches’ is a short head because it matches the style of my Crosstrek interior.

You have access to wallpapers on Android Auto with v6.1 from the app, which is starting now. To change your wallpaper, visit the Settings app on your car’s Android Auto Home screen, then scroll down slightly until you see the “Select Wallpaper” option below.
