Android 12 design site leaks radical visual overhaul

If Google follows last year’s precedent, the first Android 12 developer preview will launch this month. For that matter, a leak today reveals the design models of Android 12 a radical visual overhaul of the Google operating system.

Last month we reported that Google was working on an in-depth theme system for Android 12. These design concepts (from RKBDI), which allegedly leaked (via XDA) from Google briefings with OEM partners, show a sand color that drawn from the same kind -colored wallpaper of hills and dunes.

We see that sand accents always color everything from the search bar to app icons and even widgets. As we speak, the first mockup below shows several “Conversation” widgets for “Recent messages, missed calls, or activity statuses.” With a size of 2 × 1, they contain the profile of the sender and the preview of the message. The examples below are with humorous theme with characters from Friends and populated from Facebook Messenger. Developers are likely to need to support system-level changes. Overall, these widgets reveal how Google plans to take the Android 11 tent pole to make it a People-focused operating system this year.

The third image shows a black strip at the top (above the search field) that could be a new UI element to better edit users on how to exit views by dragging. We also see that the Widgets screen is no longer just a series of carousels, but rather uses dropdown to be a more browsing list.

We then look at the notice page with a vague background, with everything – again – in a sand color. The notification maps are well-rounded with increased angular curvature and app icons with better image previews. Users still want to be able to extend alerts. Meanwhile, the fast settings on top are very large.

On the privacy front, Google will alert users when the microphone or camera is active. There will be a green pill in the top right corner of the status that shrinks to a point. When you tap on the notification page, more information is provided with links to settings. With a new unified privacy settings page, users can ‘Disable Camera’, ‘Mute Microphone’, and can turn high-level location on / off. The latter control is currently its own preferred page.

Given the early nature of this Android 12 design site, everything seen here may change during the preview period. These mockups are only meant to convey to phone makers what the big tent poles in Android 12 are.
