The U.S. Air Force is expected to announce a security briefing at all air force bases, a defense official told CNN.
The 316th Wing Public Affairs said in the statement that the man ‘gained unauthorized access to the airline and entered a C-40 aircraft assigned to the 89th Airlift Wing. Andrews’ joint base responded, detained and questioned the individual. Office of Special Investigations assists with the interview. ‘
The 89th airlift uses the aircraft commonly used by the president as Air Force One and others used to transport the vice president and cabinet members.
The plane on which the man boarded is not part of the presidential navy, according to a Department of Defense official.
The announcement came hours before President Joe Biden was to travel to Delaware from Joint Base Andrews for the weekend. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. Any aircraft with the president is designated as Air Force One.
The man was booked, given a federal subpoena and handed over to local law enforcement officers, the statement said. The man had two outstanding warrants and there was no indication that the individual had any ties to extremist groups, according to the statement.
“The safety of our installation is of the utmost importance,” said Col. Roy Oberhaus, the vice-commander of the 316th wing at Andrews Joint Base, said in the statement. “It was a serious security breach, and Andrews, Joint Base, is investigating the incident to determine how it happened so it doesn’t happen again.”
