Andrew Giuliani says he is strongly considering running for governor of New York amid Cuomo controversies

Andrew Giuliani, the son of former New York mayor and former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani, is strongly considering running for governor of New York in 2022, he told Fox News on Wednesday.

“I’m considering it strongly,” Giuliani told Fox News in a telephone interview. “I’m going to Albany on April 19.”

Giuliani said the county chairmen would be invited to Albany on April 19 by New York Republican Committee chairman Nick Langworthy, as well as ‘potential candidates’ to give their ‘seats’.

“I will make a decision at that stage,” Giuliani said. “I’m considering it strongly.”

Giuliani told Fox News he had been making calls from donors in recent days and weeks, trying to “decide if this is the right thing to do or not.”

Giuliani previously served in the Trump administration as a special assistant to the former president and as co-director in the White House public relations office.

“I can think of no other candidate who does not have Trump’s last name, and MAGA supporters are more excited about running for governor in 2022 than Lee Zeldin,” Trump’s senior adviser, Jason Miller, told Fox News said.

Zeldin – a four-time congressman representing the eastern half of New York’s Long Island, a lawyer and an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve – was first elected to the Suffolk County Congressional District in 2014. He was a strong ally and defender of Trump during his four years in the White House.

While New York is a reliable blue state where Cuomo won the third term re-election in 2018 by a massive margin of 23 points, the governor came under scrutiny as ten women raised allegations of sexual harassment against him on brought the neck, which led to an independent investigation by the Attorney General into the claims, and an indictment investigation in the State Assembly.

Cuomo vehemently denied the allegations against him and offered public support for the investigation into them.

Cuomo was also politically wounded by the nursing home crisis and was criticized after revelations that his government was concealing the full extent of the deaths associated with nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
