“I’m going to run,” Giuliani told the Conservative Washington investigator. He insisted he had a good chance of unsettling a “wounded” Cuomo.
‘Apart from someone named Trump, I think I have the best chance of winning the state and taking it back, and I think there’s an opportunity in 2022 with a wounded Democratic candidate, whether it’s going to be the government . [Andrew] Cuomo, whether it’s going to be radical [Attorney General] Letitia James, whether it’s going to be a lieutenant governor with no name, I think there’s a very, very real chance of winning, ” he said, referring to James, who as a top GOP antagonist emerged.
“I believe I can win the race,” Giuliania added. ‘I think I’m the right candidate and this is the right time to help change the state of New York. We have a playbook that works. ‘
Giuliani told the examiner he plans to formally launch his campaign later this month after a meeting with the New York Republican Committee. He also said Trump was advising him, although he noted that the former president had not yet stated which candidate he would support.
Giuliani, who also works as a political commentator for the conservative Newsmax newspaper, has close ties to Trump, a relationship that could lead him to the Republican base but be toxic in a general election in a state the former president met lost more than 23. points in November.
Republicans have struggled over the past few years to make progress in the Empire State. The party has not won a government competition or any office in the whole country since 2002. Democrats also hold super-majorities in both chambers of the state legislature.
Republicans, however, say that 2022 may have their best chance of ousting Cuomo if he elects a fourth term.
The governor has been criticized for allegations of sexual harassment against him by a number of women. He also became increasingly upset about revelations that his office had deliberately signed the number of coronavirus deaths in nursing homes in New York.
James is leading an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct against him, and the state legislature is investigating Cuomo, a sign of the governor’s deteriorating support in the legislature.
