And now, for some extremely high def video tracks

Have you ever played a video game and thought to yourself, ‘Young man, do I wish I could stop shooting this enemy in the face and appreciate my character’s skin on an almost microscopic level?’ Well, good news, Buffalo Bill. Atomic Heart, the open world first person shooter that looks like the soviet BioShock, you covered.

At least that’s the case when it comes to the game’s photo mode. In the trailer above, you can see how the real-time camera shines so deeply into the model of one character that you can make out every piece of stubble. Hell, you can even examine the model’s oily skin. It’s like we’ll make some blackheads appear here soon. Strange as it may sound, I enjoy the way video games present realistic body functions, whether they are clogged pores or perhaps more convincing beads of sweat.

There is also a bit of story in this trailer. Apparently the USSR is about to make a huge technological leap that will somehow enable them to throw away the evils of capitalism. Everyone is about to get an ominous vaccination, the radio broadcaster explains, as the trailer reveals that while you were looking up the character’s nose, the pandemonium broke loose.

According to the game’s flashy new website, the machines of this world have revolted against humanity. Your task is to eliminate the new threat before the worldwide announcement of the serious option is announced.

Atomic Heart is being developed for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Windows PC. No release date has been set.
