Hidden Path Entertainment is evolving into a AAA, third-person open-world fantasy game in the Dungeons & Dragons franchise. The developer made the announcement on March 2 via Twitter, in a tweet stating that the studio is renting for the project. Hidden Path Entertainment is the developer behind Raccoon Lagoon, Defense Schedule 2, and VR titles Witch’s Blood and Buyer tactics. At present, not much is known about the project – other than a striking figure in the development team itself.
Whitney “Strix” Beltràn, a high-end indie developer responsible for the award-winning table game Bluebeard’s bride, is the narrative director of the project. Bluebeard’s bride is a horror RPG based on the French folk tale, with a rule engine. Players take control of various aspects of the psyche of the bride and ultimately decide the ultimate fate of the character, her husband and her home.
The Bluebeard’s Product range currently includes the core rule book, three additional books with complementary materials and illustrated map cards used to depict monsters and ghostly, mysterious objects in the country house of the game. Beltran also worked Holovista, an ambitious mobile augmented reality game that has influenced fantastic architecture and the culture of social media.
Also on Twitter, Beltràn said she’s been working on the new D&D video game for some time.

This is not the only large-scale project currently being developed for the Dungeons & Dragons franchise. Larian Studios, creators of the Divinity: Original Sin series, released Baldur’s Gate 3 early access in October. In addition, Wizards’ own in-house studio Tuque Games is working on a cooperative RPG called Dark Alliance starring Drizzt Do’Urden, the famous drow created by RA Salvatore and set in the Icewind Dale region. The game is planned for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in 2021.
By the way, Dark Alliance takes place in the same part of the Forgotten Realms where the latest D&D campaign takes place on tabletop. It’s called Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden.
