The first trailer for Moxie, directed by Amy Poehler, uses the underground DIY punk sensitivity of the Riot grrrl movement for today’s generation of teens.
Based on Jennifer Mathieu’s YA novel of the same name, Moxie follows Vivian Carter (Hadley Robinson), a shy high school student who is fed up with the sexist culture at her high school. Inspired by her mother’s rebellious past, she and her friends start an anonymous zoo that evokes the toxic behavior of their peers. These are all handmade zines, sharpie symbols on hand, and hold on to the sexist status quo, set on a rocking Bikini Kill soundtrack.
Amy Poehler plays Ms Carter, Vivian’s bad mother, with Lauren Tsai (Terrace house: Aloha), Josephine Langford (After), Patrick Schwarzenegger (yes, the son of Arnold Schwarzenegger), Sydney Park (The Walking Dead) and Clark Gregg (yes, Agent Coulson) in other roles.
Moxie hits Netflix on March 3rd.
