Wow, American Airlines has just revealed that it will serve Tel Aviv from a third US city, with all three flights expected to start in 2021.
American’s Miami route to Tel Aviv begins June 2021
It has been announced that From June 4, 2021, American Airlines will start Miami flights to Tel Aviv three times a week. The new service will operate according to the following schedule:
Miami to Tel Aviv departs at 20:00 and arrives at 15:10 (+ 1 day) [Wed, Fri, Sun]
Tel Aviv to Miami departs at 23:55 and arrives at 06:25 (+ 1 day) [Mon, Thu, Sat]
With only three flights a week, I find it odd that one of them departs on Friday, as many travelers on the route cannot take the flight.
American’s new Miami to Tel Aviv route
American Airlines will use a Boeing 777-200ER for the route, with 273 seats, including 37 business-class seats and 24 premium economy seats.
American’s 777s the premium economy
Some interesting things to note about this route:
- At 6,603 miles, it will be the American’s longest route out of Miami
- American will act against EL AL in this market
- This will be the American’s first route from Miami to Asia (although West Asia is not what people traditionally think of when they hear Asia); The airport in Miami has been trying to attract service to North Asia / China for years, so if only we would see a route at some point
American’s Dallas and New York to Tel Aviv flights
It is fantastic to see Americans not only returning to Israel, but also to do so in full. American’s last route to Israel was from Philadelphia to Tel Aviv, and the route was cut in 2015, after apparently losing money for years.
American’s new Miami and Tel Aviv routes complement the new service from Dallas and New York:
American will fly to Israel from three American cities
Bottom line
How cool to see that Americans are still expanding their service to Israel, as the airline flies from no flights to the country, to flights from three cities. I’m especially excited about the Miami route, as a resident of the area who would love to return to Israel, after having a wonderful trip there a few years ago.
I still find it a little surprising how quickly all these routes are launched, with Israel’s borders still closed. While Israel is rapidly vaccinating its population, I would be curious to see if that also means reopening the borders within the next few months, which is presumably something the Americans are applying here.
What do you make of American’s Miami route to Tel Aviv?
