American Airlines launches home wine delivery service with its unused product

As alcohol sales aboard many airlines were suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, American Airlines found a way to use the unused product by offering a new, home-wine delivery service, the company announced Thursday.

The new program, called Flagship Cellars, contains bottles from the American Airlines wine collection that are usually served to those who book “Flagship” flight tickets – a luxury ticket option, available only on international and transcontinental flights.

Consumers can choose from individual bottles ranging from about $ 13 to $ 40, a blended package that is about $ 50 and up to $ 400 for a champagne container, or opt for the monthly subscription of $ 99. A variety of brands are offered by offered the program, including Stag’s Leap and Castlenau.

“For wine lovers around the world, wine offers a deeper connection to the places they like to visit,” Alison Taylor, chief executive of American Airlines, said in a statement.

Members of the American Airlines loyalty program earn two miles per dollar spent on the Flagship Cellars program, the statement said.

“We have created Flagship Cellars to offer more ways for customers to enjoy our Flagship wine, even if they are not flying in one of our premium cabins,” an airline spokesman told The Hill.

The program was also created as a way to offer the more luxurious deals of the airline.

“It also gives them a taste of what you can enjoy in Flagship First or Flagship Business,” an American Airlines spokesman told CNN.

The company hopes the delivery service will bring in about $ 40,000 to $ 50,000 in the next few months, CNN reports.
