American Airlines flight lands safely in Newark after engine stops

Disaster was averted at Newark Liberty Airport on Friday, when an American Airlines flight landed safely after an engine had to be shut down due to a possible mechanical problem.

According to the airline, flight 2555 landed from Miami without incident, with 95 passengers and six crew members on board.

The possible problem of the Boeing 737 MAX is related to an engine oil pressure or volume indicator – not the MCAS system fault associated with two fatal accidents in 2018 and 2019 that killed 346 people, officials said.

American was the first domestic airline to resume 737 MAX flights after a 20-month detention.

Boeing Co. said it was aware of the US emergency, and the FAA was investigating.

After FAA administrator Steve Dickson declared the plane safe to fly again in November, he warned that mechanical problems during flight sometimes occur with all commercial aircraft.

“For that reason, it is inevitable that a Boeing 737 MAX will at some point return to its original airport, divert or land to its destination with an actual or suspected problem during the flight,” Dickson said at the time. .

“It is very important to distinguish between these routine events that happen to any aircraft, and the acute safety issues that led to the loss of lives and the grounding of the MAX.”

Former President Trump founded the model in March 2019 after a 737 MAX crashed shortly after takeoff in Ethiopia, killing all 157 people on board.

The crash occurred months after a Lion Air flight plunged into the sea after taking off from Indonesia and claiming 189 lives.
