The pandemic took many of us. Time with loved ones, social interaction, economic stability, and … drinking nice wine on planes? Airlines do less business than usual, CNN reported, and the majority banned liquor on the flight to reduce the time flight personnel have to spend interacting with customers. (I suspect it’s also to reduce volatility during flights.) This means that there are many designated aircraft wines that can go nowhere – which is why American Airlines is trying to sell the surplus directly to people’s homes.

The new program, called American Airlines Flagship Cellars, will enable customers to purchase wine by the bottle, in custom “composite” cases, or via a $ 99 Per Month Enrollment Plan with a monthly consignment of three bottles. CNN reports that the wine would otherwise be served to customers with American Airlines’ “Flagship” tickets – basically the most beautiful seat option that money can buy on international and transcontinental flights.

American Airlines told CNN that it estimates the new program will generate up to $ 50,000 in revenue during the first three months of 2021. . It’s just that the rest of the Americans are a little greasy. “While revenue is important, Flagship Cellars is more of a way to engage customers, even if they are not traveling with us,” a CNN spokesman said. “It also gives them a taste of what you can enjoy in Flagship First or Flagship Business.” Sure, I think. I may not be able to go to work, see my friends, make future plans, or spend time in my favorite local businesses, but I can at least get a taste of expensive airplane wine. What I really like, though, is a consignment of lukewarm ginger beer and some Biscoff waffles. Now it is luxury.
