Yesterday, TESLA announced its updated Model S, which includes a range of new features, including a brand new infotainment system that brings 10 TFLOPs of horsepower, the same power as Sony’s PS5 and is reportedly powered by AMD’s RDNA 2-based Navi 23 GPU .
TESLA Model S 2021 has the same game horse as Sony’s PS5 and can operate Cyberpunk 2077, apparently powered by AMD’s Navi 23 RDNA 2 GPU
According to TESLA, its information system will be based on the Tesla Gaming Arcade platform. It comes with a 17-inch movie screen with a resolution of 2200×1300 and a secondary screen for the second row passengers.
TESLA claims that their infotainment system allows up to 10 TFLOPs of processing power, similar to current generation consoles such as the Sony PS5. The infotainment system is compatible with wireless controller and lets you play from every seat. And although TESLA does not mention any specifications of this particular system, the hardware scene has an idea of what might be under the hood of the latest TESLA model S.
One of the first people to report that the Tesla Model S would take down an AMD RDNA 2 GPU was Patrick Schur, who is a highly respected proponent of various hardware leaks. According to him, TESLA Model S uses the Navi 23 GPU, which is derived from the Navi 2 SKUs and the smallest group. The Navi 21 GPU is characterized by the luxury and flagship designs, while the Navi 22 GPU will focus on the main segment. The Navi 23 GPU is aimed at the entry-level segment, but it is still a match for existing consoles.
A block diagram from TESLA Motors itself shows that the Navi 23 GPU will indeed power the infotainment system on the Tesla Model S 2021. It features a 128-bit bus interface with four 2 GB DRAM modules that would allow for 8 GB of GDDR6 memory (K4ZAF325XM dies). The memory works at 14 Gbps to deliver a total bandwidth of 224 GB / s. The AMD Navi 23 GPU will be connected to the main B2B connector via a PCIe Gen 3 x8 connector and will include HDMI 1.4.
AMD Navi 23 RDNA 2 GPU blockchain leaked by Patrick Schur
There are no specifications for the GPU configuration, but it is speculated that the Navi 23 GPU will contain a maximum of 32 computer units or 2048 cores. A clock speed of up to 2.44 GHz is required to hit 10 TFLOPs of computing power. Other details mentioned in the GPU block diagram include a 4-phase power regulator and various thermal diodes and a 100 MHz oscillator. No details regarding the TDP or the thermal output of the AMD Navi 23 GPU are mentioned.
