By the end of Tuesday’s Teen Mom premiere, Amber was determined that she and Dimitri ‘were not a boyfriend and girlfriend’.
It looks like Amber Portwood and Belgian boyfriend Dimitri Garcia could not reach the distance.
While fans of “Teen Mom OG” got to know her new beauty for the first time this past season, the relationship clearly took a turn before filming resumed – a situation complicated by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“We’ve seen each other in seven months now because of Covid,” Portwood exclaimed during a Zoom call with her fellow teenage mom costar during Tuesday night’s premiere. “The thing is, though, that he’s such a sweet guy, he’s great, but he’s possessive and jealous because he’s not here.”

As someone who had been in a ‘controlling’ relationship before, she was worried about falling back into a similar situation. “I can not go back to where I was. I found myself and I am happy about that, but I do not want to lose it,” she explained.
In a voice-over, Portwood went on to say that Dimitri’s ‘uncertainty’ was ‘a lot’ to her. “Dimitri called me incessantly and I need to be aware of this dynamic because I have had a controlling relationship before,” she said.
Amber spoke to one of her producers and said he was “possessive from a distance” and someone who needed to know “what I do all day, every day.” His ears must have been ringing, because just after she said that, she got a call from him.
In it he said that it was not his fault that he was so possessive, because he could not stop thinking of her. “I love you, I miss you very much,” he told her. Amber’s response: “There are times when I feel like it’s a little bit.”

“The love we had before turned into a very possessive situation and a very unhealthy situation,” she then told him. “To be interviewing so many people at such a time is just something that is not necessary for me at all. We are not going to ‘go out’.”
When he asked, “Seriously?”, She said she should go hang out. She spoke to her ex Gary Shirley after the call and told him that the two ‘are not a boyfriend and a girlfriend’.
Portwood also briefly referred to her ongoing problems with ex Andrew Glennon, with whom she shares son James, throughout the course of the hour. While she noticed that the children ‘did incredibly well’ and had to see each other a lot, she could not ‘talk about certain names or anything’ when asked about Andrew. She also revealed that James was not allowed to film in the midst of their oversight dispute, but she could still see him 2-3 times a week.
