Amazon’s open world MMO, New world, has been delayed once again. The developer now expects the game to launch on August 31st. “We have worked hard on the compelling features for the endgame that we believe are important to include in the launch,” reads an update on the game’s website. “These features will not be ready for the spring period we have announced.”
The development at Amazon was bumpy. New world has also been somewhat critical of the depiction of European colonization. The tent pole game, previously intended for a launch in 2020, was pushed back in August last year from the date of August to the spring of 2021 – its second delay. The news came days after Amazon-owned studio Relentless released its free shooter Furnace by putting it back in closed beta. In 2019, Amazon laid off dozens of developers as part of a reorganization; it canceled another tent pole game, Break away, in 2018.
In today’s post, New worldThe developer said that “with this extra time we will be able to add these significant improvements while scraping and fine-tuning the whole game before opening Aeternum’s coast to the world.” The developer plans to continue alpha testing and expand to European servers on March 20. A closed beta is planned for July 20.
