Amazon to start testing fleet electric delivery trucks in San Francisco

This week, Amazon announced that the company will be testing its current fleet of cartoon vehicles in San Francisco, contributing to the growing number of clean energy delivery cars and public transportation vehicles crossing our streets.

The era of fossil fuel free energy is near. (And if anything, the United States and other developed countries around the world are making progress on the schedule to ban and replace all ICE vehicles in the next decade or two.) This contributes to the number of silent cars San Drive Francisco will be Amazon’s new electric delivery vehicle, designed and manufactured by Michigan lead manufacturer Rivian.

“As we continue to grow and invest in California, we want to do it responsibly, so we’m excited for customers in the Bay Area to see these vehicles sailing through their neighborhoods,” said Ross Rachey, director of Amazon’s Global Fleet. and Products, said. per press release said in a statement.

This news also comes after a recent $ 200 million investment in a new delivery station in SF, which is an indication of Amazon’s pressure to significantly increase deliveries in the city.

“From what we’ve seen, it’s one of the fastest growing modern commercial electrification programs, and we’m incredibly proud of it,” Rachey adds. Although the exact number of how many of these vehicles will follow the city is not mentioned, the e-commerce giant plans to order 100,000 Rivian vans – which will be large, with some models carrying more than 900 cubic feet of packages carry and can drive 150 miles on a charge – and will use full-time fleets of it from an early age. as 2022.

Amazon’s EV presence comes at a time when companies with autonomous vehicles, such as Waymo and Cruise, are expanding their fleet of vehicles (which are fully electric or EV hybrids) to test in San Francisco.

At this rate, who knows: robot dogs may soon drop off packages at our apartment’s doorknob.
