Amazon shaves the mustache of the app icon that raised eyebrows

Amazon has quietly rolled out a slight update to its new app icon that it launched in January, changing the colorful strip of tape on the icon that has an unfortunate resemblance to a toothbrush-style mustache.

The toothbrush mustache was originally popularized by comedians such as Charlie Chaplin in the early 1900s before being associated forever with Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.

Amazon made some changes to the icon following customer feedback from the initial launch before launching the final design worldwide. A Amazon spokesman says: ‘Amazon is always exploring new ways to please our customers. We designed the new icon to evoke anticipation, excitement and joy when customers begin their shopping trip on their mobile phone, just like when they see our boxes on their doorstep. ”

This is a change that makes sense. The Amazon ads portrayed the fickle A-to-Z arrow adorning the packaging as singing mouths, and in that light, the unbridled edge and width of the blue band on the previous icon design looked uncomfortable like the dental finish.

The updated icon wants to avoid the problem altogether by exchanging the mustache adhesive for a two-tone folded piece of tape that refers to the (alleged) joy of tearing open an Amazon package instead of one of the cruelest dictators in the modern time. history.

However, Amazon’s design team can take some comfort by participating in the annals of modern companies that have been forced to digitally shave controversial mustaches. On top of that, the new icon already gets much more favorable comparisons: the corner band apparently makes it look now Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s Aang instead.
