Launched in 2014, Prime Pantry was created to help people buy non-perishable groceries or cleaning supplies in large quantities with a cheap fixed delivery fee (or free if you are a member of Amazon Prime), with the proviso that all the items had to fit in a single standard-size box.
Later in 2018, Amazon gave customers who were not Amazon Prime subscribers an option to pay $ 5 a month to subscribe to Amazon Pantry, thus avoiding the leading fixed delivery rates.
However, after Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods in 2017 and the expansion of the delivery options of Prime Now and Amazon Fresh, it appears that Prime Pantry has become unnecessary, and on Wednesday of this week, Amazon decided to close Prime Pantry for good.
In a statement issued to Bloomberg, an Amazon spokesperson said: “As part of our commitment to deliver the best possible customer experience, we decided to transfer Amazon Pantry Choice to the main store of Amazon.com, allowing customers to order daily household products faster. can get, without an extra subscription or purchase requirement. ”

Amazon’s spokesman also stated that previous Prime Pantry subscribers were notified in December of the upcoming closure of Prime Pantry, and that they had to repay unused subscription time.
