companies that report.
NXP Semiconductors
and Otis Worldwide begin business Monday, followed by several big names Tuesday: Alphabet,
Amazon.com,
Alibaba Group Holding,
Chipotle Mexican Grill,
Electronic Arts,
Exxon Mobile,
Pfizer,
and
United Package Service
everyone reports.
On Wednesday,
AbbVie,
eBay,
PayPal Holdings,
Qualcomm,
and
Spotify Technology
release results. Thursday’s highlights are
Activision Blizzard,
Bristol Myers Squibb,
Ford Motor,
Merck, Snap, en
T-Mobile USA.
Finally, Linde,
Regeneron Pharmaceutical Products,
and
Sanofi
closes the week Friday.
The economic data this week is Friday’s January January report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Economists’ consensus estimate is for 100,000 new non-farming payrolls after a fall of 140,000 in December. The unemployment rate is expected to remain constant at 6.7%.
Other data available this week includes the Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index of Supply Management for Monday in January and its equivalent for services on Wednesday. The Census Bureau also reports construction spending expenditures for December on Monday, and the Labor Statistics Bureau on Thursday reports non-farm productivity and unit labor costs for the fourth quarter.

The Institute for Provision Management launches its January Manufacturing Purchases Index. Economists predict a reading of 60, roughly even in December. A PMI above 50 indicates expansion in the manufacturing sector.
The Census Bureau report the spending data for construction for December. Consensus estimate is a 0.7% month-on-month increase in construction spending to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $ 1.47 billion.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics report non-operating productivity and unit labor costs for the fourth quarter. Economists predict that productivity declined at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.9%, after jumping 4.6% in the third quarter. Labor costs per unit are expected to rise by 3.4%, after falling by 6.6%.

The BLS is released the work report for January. Consensus estimates are that non-farm salaries will rise by 100,000, reversing the 140,000 drop in December. The unemployment rate is expected to remain unchanged at 6.7%.
The Federal Reserve reports consumer credit data for December. Total outstanding consumer debt is expected to rise by $ 12 billion to a total of $ 4.18 billion. This will bring the outstanding consumer credit to the same level as it started in 2020. The last time debt fell in a year was 2009.
