Amazon cancels ‘Lord of the Rings’ game after contract dispute

Another Amazon video game has reached an untimely end. The company revealed to Bloomberg that it cancels the Lord of the Rings game that developed it using China’s Leyou. The company only explained the move by saying it “could not obtain the terms” to continue the development of the massive multiplayer online title. However, sources claim that the acquisition of Leyou from Tencent led to a contract dispute that ultimately killed the project.

The cancellation is the latest bad news for a company that has had little success with game development. It has been canceled Break away in 2018 after a lack of progress, and it has declined Furnace after poor feedback during testing. Another MMO, New world, has experienced several delays and is not expected to start until the end of August. Although Amazon is still committed to its Game Studios efforts, they clearly have not delivered fast results.

Not that Amazon is a rabbit. The internet giant is pinning most of it Lord of the Rings hoping for his Prime Video series. The game would have been an easy addition to the show, but there is little doubt that it would have made a lot less money. This is mostly disappointing for fans. Although it would not be the only LotR online game, Amazon’s influence and series engagement could make it a huge success.
