Amazon (AMZN), Converted Organics (COIN), Tesla Motors (TSLA) – Dogecoin as payment option gains momentum as ‘Meme Currency’ shoots for the moon

Dogecoin (CYRPTO: DOGE), often branded as a meme coin, saw a meteoric rise last week and peaked at 43.77 cents on Friday before returning some gains over the past week.

Its growing popularity, thanks in part to the insignificant support of Tesla Inc.’s (NASDAQ: TSLA) Elon Musk, pushes the cryptocurrency into the mainstream.

Doge’s tumultuous gains: On its everyday Friday, the cryptocurrency made a profit of more than 9,200% for the year-on-year period. Doge ended at 0.47 cents in 2020 and broke short of 1 cent early in 2021.

After trading below the 1-cent mark for much of January, Doge hit a high of 8.49 cents on February 9, while Musk sent it to the moon with his supportive tweets. After that, Doge started a consolidation movement and it was largely limited to 5-7 cents.

The list of Coinbase Global, Inc. (NASDAQ: COIN) launched the new momentum last week and Doge quickly seized optimism and saw a meteoric rise. doge.png

Here are some of the companies that have started accepting Doge as a payment option.

easyDN: Friday, easyDN, a Canadian web hosting provider, said that Doge has started accepting and has already accepted Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC), Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) and Litecoin (CRYPTO: LTC). In a blog post, the company dug up Musk and claimed that it hit him very well.

CLASH: OTC Listed BOTS, Inc. (OTC: BTZI), a robotics company, said on Friday it had become one of the first listed companies to adopt Dogecoin as a means of payment for all its products and services.

“Like Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin, Dogecoin is also a popular cryptocurrency that people use to buy and trade,” the company said in a release.

Dallas Mavericks: The Dallas Mavericks, a professional basketball team owned by co-host of “Shark Tank” Mark Cuban, announced earlier this month that its fans can use Dogecoin to buy tickets and merchandise online.

“With fans in mind, the Mavs use BitPay to process all cryptocurrency purchases, including cards and merchandise with all top cryptocurrencies, including BTC, BCH, ETH, USDC, GUSD, PAX and BUSD and now DOGE,” reads a statement from the Mavericks.

Cuban’s reasoning for adoption reflects the growing popularity of Doge.

“We chose to do it because sometimes you have to do things that are fun, engaging and hopefully generate a lot of PR,” Cuban said.

Kessler: The luxury hotel chain Kessler Group said on March 9 that it will partner with BitPay to accept Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin and several other cryptocurrencies, including four stable currencies as payment to meet the growing demand immediately.

airBaltic: Latvian airline airBaltic, which has been using Bitcoin as a payment option since 2014, said in late March that it had started accepting other cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin Cash, Ether and Dogecoin for discussions made on its website.

Amazon to follow suit? Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), which has so far shied away from using cryptocurrencies as a payment option, is under pressure to reconsider its position. Requests posted on Change.org want Amazon to accept Dogecoin for payments.

One petition so far has more than 114,000 signatures.
