Allison Janney bids farewell to Mom as sitcom is canceled after eight seasons

Allison Janney has said goodbye to the TV series Mom after CBS announced on Thursday that it will end the sitcom this year after eight seasons.

The actress (61), who plays Bonnie in the hit program, shortly afterwards described in a sincere Instagram message that she was part of Mom as ‘one of the great honors of my life’.

The American show, which deals with the topic of recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, has been canceled after the sudden departure of the lead role Anna Faris last September.

Despite Faris, 44, leaving a few days before production began, the show continued with her co-star Janney at the helm – but this would be the last season of the show.

Allison took to Instagram to share an article announcing the cancellation of the show, while paying tribute to the show’s creators, writers, and crew.

The Oscar-winning actress wrote: “Being part of MOM for the past 8 years … showing the laughter, love and hope that comes with recovery has been one of the greatest honors in my life.”

It comes a few days after Allison’s appearance in The Ellen DeGeneres show, where she described going back to the set without Faris as ‘strange’.

When she said about her former co-star’s shocking and sudden retirement: ‘Yes, it was very strange and she was greatly missed. Anna is missed and her character in the program is missed. ‘

Janney then expressed her wish that the series should continue, despite Faris being marketed as the main star and character of the program when it was first presented in 2013.

Actress Mimi Kennedy – who plays Marjorie in the hit show Mom – shared an online petition started by fans asking that the CBS sitcom be saved after it was canceled.

Mimi Kennedy, 72, posted on her Instagram on Thursday: “The audience has a voice and should not be ignored,” promising to share the petition Change.org.

However, this is now the end of the series for the series, despite the work of the ensemble and the petition of fans.

By season three, it was less about Faris’ character, Christy and her children, and more about an ensemble comedy – with supporting actors Jaime Pressley, Mimi Kennedy and Beth Hall becoming more topical.

In 2018, Kristen Johnston made a huge impact on Tammy Diffendorf, Bonnie (Janney)’s foster sister, who ended up in jail after she tried to rob an Outback Steakhouse.
