PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Allegheny County is expanding who is eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine at its clinics.
Previously, the province only vaccinated people over 65. It now extends the freedom to people from 50 to 64 in the 1A category of the state. This includes people with high-risk conditions such as cancer, heart disease or type 2 diabetes.

This is welcome news for Jen Stenson, who falls into this category and now has a new option to get the vaccine.
“I think this is great news. I’m looking forward to getting my vaccine, ”Stenson said. “I was hoping to get one soon. I searched all the sites. Now that it’s official, I’ll be happy to pick one up. ‘

Currently, Allegheny County has several appointment clinics, including one in Monroeville, Castle Shannon and a new one that has just opened at the Peterson Events Center.
The county plans to open two other vaccination sites at Ross Township Community Center and one at Central Baptist Church in Hill District.

Official health officials said they fired 10,000 shots a day and had more doses on the way. It comes to dr. Debra Bogen, director of health in Allegheny County, said she was worried about a spring boom.
She says there are some outbreaks in the country related to the British variant, which are spreading more efficiently. She says infected residents report that they are going to more opportunities, and she is concerned that the state may slowly reopen, and that the number of cases may increase.
“I’m asking everyone to be careful for another month or two while we get more people vaccinated,” she told a news conference on Wednesday.
While there are still fears in the country, more families are on the way.
“So I can take off the mask and we can get some normalcy back as soon as possible,” said Robert Beck of McCandless.
Although more vaccines are going out, the health department is appealing to people to continue wearing masks and social distances.
