Allegheny County reports 526 cases of coronavirus; 38 new deaths

Allegheny County recorded 526 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, as recent numbers still fall below 1,000.

Reports did not reach more than 700 cases in more than a week.

The province reported nine days of at least 1,000 new cases, but according to data from the Allegheny County Health Department, it has not posted one in the past two weeks.

Thirty-eight additional deaths were reported Saturday, raising the province’s toll to 1221.

That’s 135 more deaths than last week.

The death dates ranged from November 28 to Thursday. One death was from November, while 27 from December.

Wednesday’s numbers included 74 deaths, a record high for the country’s daily report.

Of the deaths reported just Saturday, one person was in their 50s; three people were in their 60s; 10 were in their 70s; 10 were in their 80s; and 14 were in their 90s.

Twenty deaths were related to long-term care facilities.

According to the health department, the province has collected 63,844 cases of covid-19.

Of the new cases, 402 are confirmed, while 124 are listed as likely. Health officials define a probable case as a case in which a patient has a positive viral antigen test or coviate symptoms with a ‘high risk’ exposure ‘to someone who has been confirmed to have coronavirus.

The recent series of samples containing 1,655 tests was collected from July 8 to Friday. Six positive tests were more than a week old with one of those dating to July, officials said. The health department says the case is being investigated and has been sent to government officials.

The tests yielded a positivity rate of about 24%. The cases range in age from 5 months to 100 years old, with an average age of 40.

Eight new hospitalizations were reported. Officials say 3,785 people have been hospitalized – 404 more than this time last week – since the virus was first reported on March 14 in Allegheny County.

There are currently 450 covid-19 patients admitted to Allegheny County (124 lower than last week), of which 145 were admitted to the intensive care units (33 fewer than last week). It is said that there are sixty-three of those in an ICU on fans (13 less than last week).

The numbers for the country were not yet so low before Thanksgiving.

During the first sixteen days of January, Allegheny County reported 10,035 cases of covid-19, averaging 627 per day. This is in line for 19,442 cases for the month.

During December, the province amassed 25,405 new cases. It represents nearly 40% of the cases in Allegheny County.

This is an average of 820 per day (down from an average of 910 during the middle of the month); During the height of its boom, the country was picking up 28,210 cases for the month.

In November, officials recorded 12,608 new cases. December, the amount more than doubled.

Throughout October, the province saw 3,448 new cases of the virus, an increase of 72.3% from September (2001).

According to the Allegheny County covid website, officials estimate that more than 21,000 people have now recovered from the virus.

The site counts people who have been recovered due to one of two conditions: it is 32 days since the person was admitted to hospital for covid-19 and did not die; or, if they have not been admitted to the hospital, 14 days since they tested positive.
