Allegheny County recorded 285 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, a relative increase as the number of cases has decreased in recent weeks.
According to data from the Allegheny Department of Health, the reports have not reached more than 500 cases in the last 500 weeks in the past seven weeks.
The seven-day average is 233 cases.
One death was reported Saturday, raising the province’s toll to 1,629.
That’s 46 more deaths than at the same time last week. Wednesday’s numbers included 26 deaths, the highest report for the week.
On Friday, 18 deaths were reported.
Saturday’s recorded death occurred on December 17. The deceased, in their 90s, was attached to a long-term care facility.
According to the provincial health department, the province has collected 74,602 cases of covid-19 since the start of the pandemic in March.
Of the new cases, 206 are confirmed, and 79 are listed as likely. Health officials define a probable case as a case in which a patient has a positive viral antigen test or coviate symptoms with a ‘high risk’ exposure ‘to someone who has been confirmed to have coronavirus.
The recent series of samples containing 936 tests was collected from 28 January to Friday. Three positive tests were more than a week old, officials said.
The tests yielded a positivity rate of about 30%. The cases range from 11 months to 92 years old, with an average age of 38.
Ten new hospitalizations were reported. Officials say 4,749 people have been hospitalized – 86 more than at the same time last week – since the virus was first reported in Allegheny County on March 14. Of those admitted to the hospital, 872 were admitted to the intensive care unit.
Nearly three weeks to February, Allegheny County reported 5,234 cases of covid-19, an average of 262 per day – about 18 cases per day from last week.
Last month, 15,559 cases were reported – an average of 502 per day.
During December, the province amassed 25,405 new cases. It represents about 34% of Allegheny County’s business. It averaged 820 per day.
In November, officials recorded 12,608 new cases. December, the amount more than doubled.
Throughout October, the province saw 3,448 new cases of the virus, an increase of 72% from September (2001).
According to the Allegheny County covid website, officials estimate that more than 25,000 people have now recovered from the virus.
The site counts people who have been recovered based on one of two conditions: it is 32 days since the person was admitted to hospital for covid-19 and survived; and if they have not been admitted to the hospital, it is 14 days since they tested positive.
