Alleged Android 12 screenshots show a privacy indicator and conversation widget

Google is expected to release Android 12 this year, which means preview developers and betas are likely to be available for download soon. You may not have to wait that long to see what the upcoming mobile phone has in store for you: XDA Developers published what may be our first look at Android 12.. However, the publication got an “alleged early draft” of a Google document summarizing the changes for the operating system, and it has a few screenshots, including one showing an opaque notification panel with rounded corner entries.

You can also see in the right-hand screenshot above that the UI shows only four Quick Settings tiles instead of the usual six. There is a new privacy indicator at the top left of the interface that indicates whether the camera and microphone of the phone are also used. Tapping the indicator shows you which apps the camera and microphone are using, and by changing privacy settings you can turn it off completely.

While XDA Developers can not verify the authenticity of the screenshots themselves, it says that the source document itself is genuine. Based on the document, Google will make the privacy indicator a mandatory feature for all Android 12 devices. The technology giant will apparently also debut ‘conversation widgets’ (see second screenshot from left) with the operating system and make it a mandatory feature as well.
