All the apps that support Apple’s spatial audio feature

Spatial Sound is an audio feature exclusive to AirPods Pro and AirPods Max that carries surround sound with Apple’s premium audio wear. Using dynamic head tracking, it brings a theatrical sound experience to the movie or video you are watching, making it seem like the sound is coming from all around you.

This feature works by comparing the data of your iOS device’s gyroscope and accelerometer with the data of your PAirPods‌ Pro or irAirPods Max‌, to ensure that the sound field remains anchored on the device even when your head is moving.

It is not surprising that spatial sound is not universally supported by third-party programs and services. To spend your time wondering if a particular app works with the feature, we’ve compiled a list of all the apps that have been officially updated to support Spatial Audio, and some popular apps that still need support.

  • Air Video HD (turn on Surround in the audio settings)
  • Apple’s TV app
  • Disney +
  • FE File Explorer (DTS 5.1 not supported)
  • Foxtel Go (Australia)
  • HBO max
  • Hulu
  • Plex (Enable old video player in Settings)
  • Peacock
  • Discovery +
  • Paramount +
  • Vudu
  • Throw in
  • Netflix
  • Youtube
  • Vimeo
  • VLC

We will keep these lists up to date as we learn of additional third-party programs and updates that appear to support spatial audio. In the meantime, check the following details to make sure your hardware is compatible with the feature.
