Garret Miller of Texas is facing five criminal charges following the Capitol uprising, including trespassing and death threats. Miller apparently tweeted according to court documents: “killed AOC.”
Prosecutors said in recently released court documents that Miller posted on social media before and during the attack, saying a “civil war could begin” and “next time we bring the guns.”
According to the justice department, he was arrested on Wednesday. Federal prosecutors are asking a judge to keep him in jail pending trial, and a detention trial is scheduled for Monday.
Clint Broden, a lawyer for Miller, told CNN on Saturday that his client “definitely regrets what he did.”
“He did it in support of former President (Donald) Trump, but regrets that he acted. He saw the support of his family, and many of the comments, in context, are really a misleading political hyperbole. Given the “Politically divided these days, there is a lot of hyperbole,” Broden said.
