As we accelerate five stages of sadness with Alex Trebek’s final Danger! episode aired on Friday, consider it a fun piece of trivia to remember the legend further: Did you know that Trebek was the one who beep-beep-beep signal if no participants knew a clue answer? Unlike a glib computer system called Watson with a timer? This revelation came to us via a new Ringer article, previously buried in a separate piece published in December. Bob Bergen, who presented the short-lived children’s pinoff Yep! for the franchise, said he was shocked to discover Trebek’s discreet involvement while touring the studio in the ’90s. This may be the only case if a secret button is good.

‘The very first day, Harry [Friedman] show me the podium with the button, ”Bergen remembers The Ringer. “I said, ‘Wait a minute, is there no set time?’ Do you change it so that people do not go, Why did he have ten seconds and he had four?? “He said, ‘No, and no one in the history of the show has ever questioned that.’ ‘The prominent contestants Ken Jennings and Buzzy Cohen have since confirm this little-known fact, with Jennings tweeting in December: ‘I only learned it last year and really had to reevaluate my life.’ What’s next? Did Trebek also serve as his own tree operator?
