Alcaldes celebrates $ 6,200 million cashback on CDBG-DR funds for reconstruction

The President of the Alcaldes Association of Puerto Rico, Luis Javier Hernández, reacted to the announcement made by President Joe Biden’s governor, regarding the $ 6,200 million approval for mitigation projects of the Community Development Program by CD, hope to accelerate the reconstruction of Puerto Rico.

“We would like to thank President Biden for completing his promise to release foundations. In the past, the combination of local-level corruption acts, such as Whitefish, and Donald Trump in the United States, has been lethal to the recovery of our people.

Hernández signaled that since the passage of Hurricanes Irma and María, the municipalities have raised a clear and consistent gap for federal funds to be expedited.

The excessive bureaucracy burns, limits, blocks the reconstruction of the communities. Now we, like the rest of the world, are turning the tide of public service. These are the guarantors of the guarantees that those foundations have to offer: to the people ”.

Hernández argues that “municipal labor teams have the experience of managing the CDBG funds, since the specific needs of the municipalities and above all, have insisted on the derogation from excessive bureaucracy. Now what is the process is the approval of projects and dismantling of funds in a fair, equitable manner and that will guarantee peace of mind in the country ”.

The president of the associated alcaldas has various recommendations from the governor of Pedro Pierluisi, the Secretary of Life and the team of COR3. “If we want to be the quarterback of the reconstruction, he has to deal with the highs, he has to agilize the projects, to flex the agreements between the agencies and the municipalities, to free up the funds for the work to be done”.

Relating to the vivid experience in Villalba and other municipalities, Hernández signaled that he would establish parameters with Hacienda, in order for the disemboles to the construction companies to be more agile. “We have the great opportunity to meet now with the impetus generated by President Biden’s announcement. Now we need the central government to cooperate with its fast-paced work. As always, the old ones are listed for collaboration, and by supuesto, taxing when necessary, by benefiting our communities ”, he concluded.
