Alabama adds 4556 COVID cases, 4,007 from backlog dating back to 2020

Alabama saw an increase in COVID cases by four digits overnight after a backlog of cases was added.

The Alabama Department of Public Health has added 4,556 cases of coronavirus since yesterday, bringing the state’s total to 508,229. Of the increase, 4,007 was due to a backlog of old cases dating back to 2020; 549 were new affairs.

ADPH processed the backlog of cases on March 14th.

“These will be classified as confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases reported on March 15, although the tests were conducted during October 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021,” the agency said.

Since March 13, Alabama has reported 10,329 COVID deaths, of which 303,746 presumably recovered from coronavirus. There are currently 413 coronavirus hospitalizations across the state, a sharp drop from the 3000 plus at the beginning of the year.

Alabama has currently administered 1.214 million COVID vaccine with the number expected to increase as suitability and availability expand.
