Age of Empires 4 is playable, requires ‘balance and polish’

After a mostly quiet 2020 for Age of Empires 4, we get some news about the strategy game. The sequel is in a playable state and is currently being widely mistaken and adapted.

“I do not want to make you jealous, but we play this game literally every day – in Washington as well as in Vancouver,” writes Shannon Loftis, general manager of World’s Edge Studio, in a year-end review. ‘RTS development is funny: it takes a while to build the separate systems (AI, economy, sim, version, etc.), and then it takes a while before they come together. But if they do, you suddenly have a game – a game that needs debugging and balance and polishing – but the core of the game you know you’ve going to send. ”

The long-awaited next mainline Age of Empires was announced in 2017. In 2019, World’s Edge will be unveiled as the studio that will handle the future of medieval games in Microsoft, as Tantalus Media and Forgotten Realms manage the final editions, and this is the most important news since.

Fans of the series barely missed out on 2020, as Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition was released, and Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition received some major updates. Shannon mentions that the migration from office to home amid the ongoing pandemic was not easy, but says the game is still on track, although there is no question of a launch window.

Here is the game trailer of 2019:

This may not be the release date of Age of Empires 4 we’ve been hoping for, but it’s something and we’ll keep you posted on the upcoming game as we move into 2021.
