Awesome Games Done Quick is always a great time of year. This year, of course, it’s a little sadder than usual, because the AGDQ staple food – a bunch of fans screaming support behind the speeders on stream – will not be possible, thanks to this pandemic. Nevertheless, the fundraising stream for charity continues, and it is, as always, a scheduled schedule.
This year, AGDQ started on Sunday 3 January with a run of less than 45 minutes Spieëlrant, and it just got better from there, with speed bumps on the SNES, the N64 and the Game Boy Advance.
Today (Monday 4 January) the series has been included so far Pikmin 2, Yooka-Laylee, en Startropics on the NES, with the usual AGDQ Sonic piece that takes place while writing this (should go fast).
Highlights of the next few days include Hades, which will be played on Tuesday, January 5, in just over an hour (in order not to turn on if you do not want spoilers), a run of one hour and forty Skyward Sword on Wednesday, a run of the unappreciated CD-i Zelda game, The magic wand of Gamelon, on Thursday, and for the first (and probably last time) during a GDQ event, Super Mario Bros. 35, which appears to be teamed up by four different speeders.
There are also some TASBot runs, including the Game Boy version of Link’s Awakening, which is always worth a look. TASBot – an abbreviation for ‘Tool-Assisted Speedrun Robot’ – is a clever thing that monitors a bunch of speedruns from a game and then uses the input to create the ultimate speedrun better than human hands could ever get. Watch the video below to see how TASBot flies through Celeste:
You can see Awesome Games Done Quick on their Twitch page, and you can view the schedule for themselves on their website. They usually put up VODs from the streams, so if you miss it (or you fall asleep), you can watch it again on the GDQ YouTube channel.
Pew, these are a lot of links. Are you already tuned to AGDQ? Which speedruns are you most looking forward to? We can not say that we are excited about the prospect that someone will beat Hades in a fraction of the time it took us, but we are still going to watch it. Discuss your thoughts in the comments!
