After a rocky start, St. Johns County joins Department of Health in distributing vaccines

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. The race to get a COVID-19 vaccine is causing a stir in St. Petersburg. Johns County.

On Thursday, a long line of cars was backed up near the St. Johns County Health Department, as many waited for hours to get the vaccine.

After the issues, the St. Johns County Board of Commissioners a letter to departmental director, Dr. Dawn Allicock, sent to several meetings.

“Since the Department of Health launched its vaccination program earlier this week, the Board of Commissioners has been inundated with questions, concerns and complaints about a lack of public information and program management,” the letter, obtained by News4Jax, reads in part. “As such, St. Johns County again requests that the Department of Health in St. Johns County strongly reconsider and accept our offer of partnership.”

The chairman of the board of commissioners, Jeremiah Blocker, wrote that the commissioners want to see the distribution of vaccines in the community and that for St. Johns County, and the public as a whole, it has become clear that the Department of Health in St. Johns County. Johns County needs extra help completing this critical mass vaccination mission. ”

The Florida Department of Health in St Johns County on Thursday vaccinated people aged 65 and older for COVID-19 and the department will re-administer at 9 a.m. this morning.

Another crowd was in the city center of St. Augustine.

There were many people who went in and out of restaurants and bars on Thursday night and looked at the beautiful lights, ready to usher in the new year.

New Year’s Eve 2020 in St. Augustine was slightly different this year with social distance and no fireworks.

“It’s definitely different with everyone having to wear masks and everything, but you just have to live and be safe,” Hancock said.

Sinclair Cerber and his family traveled from Miami.

“We’ve seen a lot of people out here without their masks on and just keep it going,” Cerber said. “Stay outside so we can do our best to stay safe. After this we will return to the hotel and spend a peaceful night in the hotel and stay safe with the family. ‘

Earlier in the day, a large crowd of people were hoping to start the new year with the COVID-19 vaccine.

“It tested my patience. That’s for sure. Two-and-a-half hours in the car plus, “said resident Michael Gurski.

The province received 3,000 doses of the vaccine and began firing on staff of St. Louis on Wednesday. Johns County Fire Rescue.
