Adam Nova gives up five runs, Adam Haseley watches in Phillies’ spring opener

On a rainy day in the north, the Phillies took to the field in Lakeland, Fla, on Sunday afternoon for their first spring practice game of 2021. In front of a crowd of a thousand fans, the Phils lost to the Tigers, 10-2.

It was a seven innings match. If managers of both teams agree, practice matches can be shortened to seven or five overs in the spring. You will see many seven cases next month.

Ivan Novaan invitation not working for the fifth appetizer started for the Phillies and lasted a third of an innings. He gave up a preliminary home run, estimated at 458 feet to short-stop Willi Castro before loading the base and running. After 27 places, Nova’s afternoon was over. The Tigers scored six runs in the innings.

“He was just a little bit away, he’s not attacking the zone,” said manager Joe Girardi, who had Nova in the Bronx for seven seasons. “I do not really make too much of it. First outing. He continues to gain his strength and the clarity of his stands. ”

Adam Haseley starts in midfield and leads the game with an opposite home field. He also walked in three plate appearances and performed.

Scott Kingery, another contestant for the center court, beat second and scored 0 for 3.. The Phillies had just four hits: Haseley’s homer, a Mickey Moniak double and single cuts from short stop CJ Chatham a catcher Jeff Mathis.

“(Haseley) had good innings today,” Girardi said. “At this stage you can not do much to harm your chances, but to help your chances. I give guys the benefit of the doubt the first few weeks. He had some good bats, Moniak had good bats today, which was just good to see. ”

The Phillies’ most effective pitcher of the afternoon was right-handed Bryan Mitchell, a 29-year-old swingman who has appeared in 48 games (nine times) for Girardi’s Yankees since 2014-17. He hit three and put one man on the base in two innings.

“He threw the ball very well today,” Girardi said.

The Tigers allowed about 2,200 fans into the Joker Marchant Stadium and the announced attendance was 2,000, though there were not that many. Girardi was sad to see or hear no sellers, but it was a step in the right direction and the players and coaches enjoyed being with some fans again.

The Phillies will have a similar number of fans during Monday afternoon’s spring home opener at the newly renamed BayCare Ballpark. Aaron Nola will start. The match will be broadcast at 13:05 on NBC Sports Philadelphia +

Things also tend in the right direction at home. As of March 1, there is a limit of 2,500 people at outdoor sporting events in the city of Philadelphia. This includes employees in the stadium.

“It’s a much better feeling,” Girardi said. “I think the players appreciate it a lot. I thought the atmosphere was good today and it was encouraging. ”
