Activision doubles hackers

Warzone reiterated its promises to players to overcome the problems with the hacking of the game and make significant “improvements” to the anti-cheat system.

Warzone’s first year was an unprecedented success, with millions of players around the world invading Verdansk and enjoying CoD’s second attempt at a battle royally, after Black Ops 4’s Blackout.

However, certain aspects of the game have become common targets for criticism. The strength of skill-based matchmaking and the prominence of hackers in games of all standards was incredibly frustrating for fans.

What exacerbated both issues, however, is the lack of tangible response from Activision. Players are incredibly frustrated by the silence of the billion-dollar enterprise, which they say has more than enough resources to solve the problem of fraud and implement a robust anti-cheat system.

Warzone has been enjoyed by more than 75 million players since its release in March 2020.

Although there has been no major public announcement of a Twitter account or senior staff member yet, a daily message in the game that was originally from April has resurfaced and reappeared to players.

The message, highlighted by Redditor ‘SSMKh’, is titled ‘Cheaters Not Welcome’. The player’s own caption “Are you sure about Activision?” tells us a lot about the skepticism and frustrations among the community.

“We work aggressively to keep Warzone nice and fair,” says the communication in the game. “Security monitoring 24/7, ALL possible cheats, hacks checked, Planned cheat reporting improvements in the game, 50,000+ global permanent bans so far, more updates will appear soon.”

The message is originally from April 2020, but it looks like it will be shown to players in January 2021. This can in a way explain why the number of permabanes in the message is so low. It is unclear whether the messages of the day are selected specifically or on an automatic rotation.

Since Activision’s inactivity is already under investigation, the repetition of a 7-month-old message seems all the more strange. We would like to think that the number of permabanes is now much higher, especially given the incredible number of people who fell in Verdansk.

The re-announcement of the improvements that are coming would be welcome, but the skeptical reactions make it clear that many people believe that the issue has gotten out of hand and that it has been allowed for too long.
