With the success of the free-to-play mode Call of Duty: Warzone over several years, some question the need for annual Call of Duty releases, but it seems Activision does not intend to delay. No title, topic or developer is mentioned in the calls.Warzone will likely remain part of the ongoing plan, and Durkin says the franchise “will benefit from a full year of Warzone that increases enhanced premium content and incremental investment in the game.”
In addition to the new game, Durkin explains that there’s a fantastic pipeline of gameplay [Call of Duty] submit content across all platforms. He adds: ‘Call of Duty will go to the largest player community it has had in another year in 2021. ‘
Later in the call, Durkin turned his attention to Blizzard, noting that Activision’s prospects “do not include the launch of Diablo IV or Overwatch 2 in 2021.” It has also been mentioned that Blizzard is developing mobile, free-to-play Warcraft games.
In other Activision news, the company filed a copyright lawsuit over the character Mara from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
