About 7 people could be injured due to natural gas explosion, fire near Klein

KLEIN, Texas About seven people could be injured on Friday during a major natural gas explosion and fire near Klein that caused an evacuation of some residents in the area.

The fire was reported in the block of Gleannloch Lakes Boulevard in 18700.

Officials from the Harris County Fire Brigade Office said a Comcast crew was working in the area and using a natural gas pipeline. The crew called a CenterPoint crew to inspect the line when two lines exploded, officials said.

A Comcast representative said a contractor cut a small line in an area where the line was incorrectly marked. The representative said CenterPoint teams hit a larger line while repairing the small line.

Small firefighters said as many as seven were injured, while HCFMO officials said it was closer to five. A Harris County Sheriff’s Office tweet said as many as ten CenterPoint employees were taken to a hospital for treatment. That tweet was later deleted.

HCFMO officials said one of the injured had to be taken by helicopter to a hospital.

In the video from Sky 2, several vehicles of a construction personnel were shown at the scene. Some of them seem to be on fire.

Officials said at least one house was damaged.

People are asked to avoid the area.

HCFMO officials said people were evacuated within 500 meters of the scene.

“They have to worry a lot. We keep it in our prayers and hopefully we will soon get everything under control here, ”said neighbor Jim Crenshaw.
