About 6,300 have COVID-19 vaccine doses smaller than recommended at Oakland Coliseum

OAKLAND, California – About 6,300 people who received a COVID-19 vaccine at the Oakland Coliseum last week may have slightly less than the dose recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but are not advised to take the dose, California , to repeat. The Department of Public Health said Monday.

People who received a dose of Pfizer vaccine on February 28 after 16:30 and March 1 between 08:00 and 15:00 may have received the slightly smaller doses, the CDPH said in a statement.

The recommended dose of the CDC of the vaccine is 0.3 milliliters, but doses of 0.15 milliliters or more are still sufficient and according to the CDPH it is not necessary for the recipient to repeat the dose.

The affected vaccine recipients at the Colosseum may have received doses of 0.22 milliliters, “which is well within the range set out by the CDC,” the CDPH said in a statement.

Staff at the vaccine site, which is being jointly corrected by the California Office of Emergency Services and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, corrected the dose difference on March 1, according to the CDPH.

People who received their first dose during the relevant window on 28 February and 1 March should still receive their second dose approximately three weeks after the first dose has been administered.

CDPH officials also sent a letter to those who received the slightly smaller doses, informing them of the dose difference and reminding them of the vaccine’s two – dose schedule.
