Abigail Breslin announced on Friday that her father had died of COVID-19, just two weeks after she urged fans to wear face masks.
Breslin, 24, shared a series of throwback photos of her father with a lengthy statement in which she remembered him as “perfect, wonderful, heroic” and shared moving anecdotes about his life.
“Oh woe. Hard to write it. Harder than I thought. I was shocked and devastated,” Breslin’s statement began.
“At 18:32 EST my sweet, perfect, wonderful, heroic, wonderful dada passed away after me and my family said goodbye. It was COVID-19 that cut short my sweet dad’s life. I appreciate more than you know “The love and support my family and I received. I mostly want to remember my father for who he was,” said the “Zombieland” actress.

She further described her father as a ‘hilarious, noisy, stubborn, rebellious, intelligent, sweet, incredible human leg’ who ‘loved life’.

“He loved the simple things … He loved a cup of coffee (black, heated for 66 seconds). He loved a good Knish (but ONLY in winter). He loved to braai ( and although we liked brown mustard) he just wanted French’s yellow.
The actress also revealed the nickname “abba dabba” that her father would call her. She said the two both have a love for animals.
She recalls his penchant for ‘taking photos and flying pests and good dinners …. funny YouTube videos and emails and weird poems and politics, and he loved me and he loved my brothers and he loved me mother loved. ‘
Breslin concluded: “And we loved him. And we will always do. I miss you Daddy. I can not wait to see you again. I will never, ever, ever forget you. Until the moon and back then … Love, yours forever, Abs. ‘

Breslin’s announcement of her father’s death comes just two weeks after she revealed on Instagram that the deadly virus had been diagnosed in him.
“Hello guys. Unfortunately this message is not one I ever thought I would have to do. I ask for prayers and positivity for my father, Michael, who tested positive for COVID-19 and had to be placed on a ventilator this morning “We remain positive and know that he is under great care,” Breslin wrote. I am very grateful to the nurses and doctors who work hard to make sure he fights the virus. “
In another report, she explained the importance of wearing face masks.
“It’s me who says that if you asked my dad: a mask is MUCH less uncomfortable than a fan,” Breslin said. wrote. “So stfu. And wear your damn mask. Please. No one is allowed to go through this.”

The actress also expressed similar sentiments on her official Twitter account, which has more than 219,400 followers. Two days before Breslin asked her 527,000 Instagram followers to wear their masks when they went out, she asked them to pray and send positive thoughts to her father.

“I believe things will turn around at any moment, but keep on wearing your masks and following COVID protocol,” she concluded her post at the time.
