Masks are currently legally required in the African nation
A viral video shows a woman shopping at a place in the South African supermarket chain, Pick n Pay, taking off her underwear and putting it over her nose and mouth after a security guard told her to put on her mask.
The woman took off her underwear under her dress after the security guard told her she would be escorted because she did not cover a face. Another buyer who was standing nearby recorded the situation on her phone and posted it on social media on Tuesday.

“Stay home and do online shopping if you do not like the idea of wearing a mask,” said another.
The publication also claims that the woman was seen in the video in another viral video from the same store where another woman told employees to take off their face masks. She was standing in the frame and was also wearing underwear on her head.
Some on social media have speculated that the video was staged, but nonetheless, South Africa’s second wave is causing concern among experts, and it can be dangerous not to wear a mask, even as a joke.
