According to the doctors, a front-end health worker, who was 36 weeks pregnant, received her first dose of Modner COVID-19 vaccine in January.

She gave birth to a healthy baby girl three weeks later and researchers obtained a blood sample from the baby’s cord to look for antibodies to determine if it was transmitted from mother to baby, something that also occurs during other vaccines given during pregnancy. Research noted that the woman received the second dose after giving birth in accordance with the 28-day vaccination timeline.

“We report the first known case of a baby with SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies detectable in umbilical cord blood after mothers’ vaccination,” the researchers concluded in their report.

‘This is one small case in thousands and thousands of babies born to vaccinated mothers [over] the next few months, ”said Chad Rudnick, a doctor involved in the research. WPBF.

Researchers say further studies need to be done to determine how coronavirus vaccines can provide mothers with some protection for babies against the virus.

“We call on other investigators to compile pregnancy and breastfeeding registers, as well as to conduct efficacy and safety studies of the COVID-19 vaccines in pregnant and breastfeeding women (sic) and their offspring,” the report reads. .
