A woman caught on camera made racist remarks in Fort Lauderdale Walgreens feels she was provoked

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. A racist outburst was captured on camera after a woman offended complaints in a Fort Lauderdale Walgreens.

It was an Islamophobic, racist and total hate speech captured on cellphone videos, 911 calls and on the police body camera.

Local 10 News spoke to both sides of the story.

Nahla Ebaid was one of the people who received the hatred.

“Very disgusting,” she said. “I can still hear her words in my ears.”

Ebaid, her husband and a few other friends were on holiday in the city at the end of March and when they went for a walk to a Walgreens in Fort Lauderdale, the woman walked in without a mask and was told by the cashier to to draw.

“She looked at us and said, ‘I wish I was from your country so I do not have to wear the mask,'” Ebaid said. of New York. “

This is what Ebaid said when the woman cut, shouted at Muslims and hurled insults at them. Nahla said she started recording the outburst after the woman spat on her husband.

Luba Bozanich is the woman in the video, and she told Local 10 News’ Ian Margol that she feels provoked while regretting what she said.

“I do not like what I have seen, but I am a human being,” Bozanich said. “When this man said what he said to me, I said what I told him, and I became angry. I felt very angry and told him. ‘

Police eventually showed up and detained Bozanich, but Ebaid and her family chose not to file charges.

“My message to Muslim women: wear your hijab, do not be afraid to wear your hijab,” Ebaid said.

Bozanich, who is a clinical social worker in Florida, said she has a medical condition that makes it difficult to wear a mask.

The incident took place a few weeks ago, but it is now more poignant than ever, as Tuesday marks the start of Ramadan for Muslims around the world.
