If you ever wanted to own a piece of computer history, now’s your chance. There is currently an assignment Apple-1, a model of the first series of computers launched by the company in 1976, is offered for sale on eBay. However, it’s not exactly cheap, and it’s going to cost you $ 1.5 million.

The Apple-1 is a highly coveted memorandum for Apple fans. Even the origin story draws you along. According to Cult of Mac, the computers were designed and built by Steve Wozniak and were sold by Steve Jobs in the wholesale market. To pay the manufacturing costs, Wozniak sold his HP-65 calculator and Jobs sold his Volkswagen van.

The Apple-1 is for sale on eBay, which according to the seller a certificate of authenticity of the Apple 1 Registry, is special because it is believed to be one of the 50 sold to Byte Shop, one of the first stores for personal computers. The product list contains that the Apple-1 in the original Byte Shop is KOA wooden case and also contains the original power supply and the Datanetics version D keyboard.

The seller, who goes through krishmiti, declares that the Apple-1 is an unchanged NTI board in almost perfect condition. The bundle also includes a period of Sony TV-115 and a video modulator. (According to the cult of Mac, users had to add their own keyboard and monitor or use a TV set for the latter).

Let’s talk now about the specifications of this technological dinosaur. It has an 8-bit MOS 6502 microprocessor running at 1 MHz. In terms of memory, it included 4KB by default, but it could be increased to 8KB or 48KB using expansion cards. Only 200 Apple-1 computers, as well as a few pre-production boards, was made. Their starting price was $ 666.66.

Decades later, these devices fetch much higher prices. In 2010, an Apple-1 computer in its original packaging was signed with a letter by Jobs sold for $ 210,000. Meanwhile, an Apple-1 computer was sold at auction in 2014 for $ 905,000, which is the highest price anyone has ever paid for a vintage Apple computer, though this seller obviously wants to break the record.

According to Cult of Mac, only a small number of Apple-1s exist today, in part due to age. Apple also lets buyers swap their Apple 1s for the Apple II, which became the first company mass mark computer.

This is not the first time that krishmiti has tried to sell its Apple-1. He tried to sell it $ 1.75 million in 2019, but presumably got no opportunists as he made the price a little lower. Is an Apple-1 worth $ 1.5 million? We may find out soon.
