A OnePlus 9 prototype was allegedly sold for $ 6,000 on eBay

  • An eBay user has sold a OnePlus 9 prototype for $ 6,000.
  • It looks like the device is one of an earlier leak.
  • Do not be surprised if OnePlus turns the phone into a paperweight.

Remember the mid-December leak to show live photos of the OnePlus 9? It’s back – and the device may have changed hands. XDAsay Mishaal Rahman and Android Police reports that eBay user Shamete1 listed the prototype phone at auction and sold it for $ 6,000.

The eBay photos are of the same OnePlus 9 unit used in a PhoneArena leaking, just without the watermarks. They point to a relatively conservative design adaptation to the 8T, with the most notable change: a large camera bump with three lenses and ‘Ultra Shot’ brand (possibly an echo of Oppo’s ‘Ultra Steady’). Earlier rumors have the phone using 48MP primary and ultra-wide cameras as well as a smaller, third rear sensor.

The seller also briefly included photos showing that the OnePlus 9 is the latest version of Oxygen OS based on Android 11, although the photos have since been removed from the eBay list (probably for device identification).

It’s not sure if the eBay device was authentic. It is possible that someone had the raw leak photos and simply used them to defraud prospective OnePlus 9 buyers on eBay. It was an extremely risky purchase, even if the phone is real. As Shamete1 warned, OnePlus is free to do what it wants – it can turn off the phone remotely or send law enforcement to the buyer.

No matter how genuine this hardware is, you will probably need to be patient for any kind of confirmation. Rumor has it that OnePlus will release the 9th to mid-March. It also assumes that there are no changes. While many phone manufacturers shut down their design in the last months before launch, we can not rule out last-minute customizations.
