A healthy Illinois woman (18) dies days after contracting coronavirus, family says

According to her family, an 18-year-old woman from Illinois died a few days after contracting the coronavirus.

Sarah Simental, who lived in the suburb of Tinley Park in Chicago, died of the virus a day after Christmas, Cook County officials said.

The virus “literally just ate her through,” the woman’s mother, Deborah Simental, told Chicago WLS-TV.

“No parent needs to watch their child go through it,” she added.

Simental said her daughter experienced symptoms for the first time last Wednesday and tested positive for COVID-19. She was admitted to the hospital and flown to the University of Chicago Medical Center, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The woman died Sunday of acute hypoxic respiratory failure and non-traumatic cerebral hemorrhage due to the infection, the country’s medical investigator said.
