A gunman barricaded in a luxury resort in Hawaii leads to disagreement with police

HONOLULU – An armed man who barricaded himself inside a hotel room in a resort in Honolulu and fired shots through the door was still in an uprising on Sunday morning.

No one was injured later Saturday in The Kahala Hotel & Resort, said Capt. Honolulu police Brian Lynch told news outlets. The luxury resort said in a statement that hotel security and law enforcement had evacuated the area around the room.

“Everyone is accountable,” Lynch said. “We are just waiting for the suspect to give up.”

According to police, shots were fired around 6 p.m. Hotel security personnel went up to the room where the man was and knocked on the door. He then shot through the door several times, police said.

Authorities did not release any details about the events that led to the stand-off. Police believe the man is in the military.

Photos and videos shared by local media showed that about 100 people were locked in the hotel’s ballroom. Displaced guests were provided with food, blankets and pillows. Hours after the absence began, guests hiding there could leave.

Images from outside the resort showed a large police presence, including a SWAT team.

Kahala resident Yevgeniy Lendel told Hawaii News. He was walking in the area when officers rushed to the scene.

“The police told everyone to run and hide,” he told the TV station. “We ran away from the hotel.”

The absence occurred during a quiet evening in the resort. Visitors and locals ate at the beach restaurants and took in attractions.

Honolulu resident Rex Jakobovits said he was walking on the beach when police told him to get into the hotel’s ballroom. He told Hawaii News that people were scared when he entered. Party crying.

However, Jakobovits said that the mood finally calmed down after officers were posted outside the doors.
