A gold statue of Donald Trump that caused a stir during the annual US Conservative gathering was made in Mexico – a country that the former president regularly demonized.
The statue is larger than life, with a gold head and Trump’s trademark suit jacket with white shirt and red tie. Video and photos of the tribute driven through the halls of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida, went viral on Friday.

Now the artist behind Trump’s enormous statue – Tommy Zegan – has revealed that the object was made in Mexico; a country that has been the target of a lot of Trump racist abuse during his political career, and somewhere he literally tried to build a wall against it.
“It was made in Mexico,” Zegan told Politico’s Playbook newsletter. Zegan, who lives in Mexico with a visa for permanent residents, described the transport of the monument to CPAC in full in Playbook.
Politico reports: “Zegan made the fiberglass statue in Rosarito with the help of three men for more than six months. He transported it to Tampa, Florida, where it was painted in chrome, and then towed it to CPAC. ”
