A Florida refugee caught with his two young daughters in Ohio

CLEVELAND – A Florida refugee wanted to be searched for allegedly hitting a 28-year-old man with a wrench was caught in Ohio hiding with his two 6-year-old daughters.

The man, Ramon Medina Santiago, was wanted from Lee County, Florida, for an assault that took place on January 9th.

According to authorities, Santiago and other people rode motorcycles and ’caused disorder for other drivers’. When one of the drivers of the group tried to get away, Santiago and the group allegedly hit him with a key and their helmets.

Surrounding people in the area stopped the assault, and Santiago and the others drove off.

Police later identified Santiago as a suspect, and authorities issued a warrant for his arrest on Wednesday. US Marshals learned that he and his two daughters fled to Ohio and contacted members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. Officers here immediately began searching for Santiago, and within hours he was caught in the 2100 block of West Boulevard in Cleveland.

Santiago had his twin 6-year-old daughters with him. They were transferred to Cuyahoga County Children Services and then sent back to family in Florida.

‘Not only are we glad that this violent, reckless refugee is off the street, but to recover the two girls safely is a victory for all involved. “I am very grateful to the officers in Florida and the teams here in Ohio for their dedication to the missions in arresting refugees and recovering children at risk,” said U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott.
